Some of you may know this, and others might be surprised. League City Connection is a product of The Galveston County Daily News. We’re the oldest newspaper in Texas, marking our 175th anniversary this year.
This is a very big deal to us. As Daily News Editor Michael A. Smith recently noted, it’s somewhat rare for anything, especially a free-market enterprise like a newspaper, to last that long.
It was an honor and a privilege on July 13 to personally meet a lot of readers of The Daily News and League City Connection. The Daily News staff and Connection staffers were host to an event celebrating our 175 years. The gathering was at the Johnnie Arolfo Civic Center. We had cake, some words from Smith and local dignitaries, but most importantly, we got to meet many of you. We were genuinely touched by the stories you told and the ownership you take in your local newspaper.
We were reminded who we serve.
We’ve done a lot of looking back this year, reflecting on our history and how we’ve evolved. The fast-growing city of League City is very much part of our future. We have, in the past few years, attempted to keep up with that growth and cover this area in our daily and monthly products.
Just in the past few years, The Daily News has added to its portfolio with the Connection newspapers and the popular Coast Monthly magazine — and its most recent spinoff, Coast Bridal. We want to continue to grow with you and your communities. And we can only do that with your support and by offering the content you want to see.
By reader demand, we recently added comics and other fun content to Connection. We’d like to know what else you would like to see.
Newspapers should reflect the people and other aspects of their communities. We would love to hear from you. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org with your tips and ideas.
