Some of you may know this and others might be surprised. Clear Lake/Friendswood Connection is a product of The Galveston County Daily News. We’re the oldest newspaper in Texas, marking our 175th anniversary this year.

This is a very big deal to us. As Daily News Editor Michael A. Smith recently noted, it’s somewhat rare for anything, especially a free-market enterprise like a newspaper, to last that long. We’ve done a lot of looking back this year, reflecting on our history and how we’ve evolved. But we’re also looking at our future, which very much includes Friendswood and the Clear Lake area. We have, in the past few years, attempted to keep up with growth and cover these areas better. No one community is the same in the area people refer to as “Clear Lake.” Each has its own identity, and own interests.

Just in the past few years, The Daily News has added to its portfolio the popular Coast Monthly magazine — and its most recent spinoff, Coast Bridal — and monthly Connection newspapers, including this one. We want to grow with you and your communities. And we can only do that with your support and by offering the content you want to see.

By reader demand, we added comics and other fun content to Connection. We’d like to know what else you would like to see. Newspapers should reflect the people and other aspects of their communities. We would love to hear from you. Please email with your tips and ideas.
